Acne Scar Subcision – Online Course
Skinovation Aesthetics Training Academy

Acne scarring can affect confidence long after the acne has gone. Subcision is one of the most effective treatments for rolling, tethered scars, which resurfacing alone often can’t fix. This online course takes you through the whole procedure step by step: how scars form, how to assess them, choosing the right patient and instrument, local anaesthesia, the cannula technique in detail, aftercare, results and complications.

The course is written by a clinician in a clear, practical style and is packed with original illustrations of the anatomy, the instruments and every stage of the technique. Study at your own pace, on any device, and come back to the material whenever you need it.

What’s included

  • Full illustrated course manual: 12 modules, around 2 hours of study
  • 48 diagrams and clinical images, including cannulas and needles, injecting lidocaine, entry points, fanning, depth and endpoint
  • Clinical tips and case notes throughout
  • Final assessment of 20 multiple-choice questions, emailed to us for marking
  • Certificate of completion on successful completion of the assessment
  • 100% online and self-paced

Who is this course for?
The course is open to everyone. It’s suitable for any practitioner who wants to add acne scar subcision to their treatments and who is able to obtain insurance for the procedure. No previous subcision experience is needed, although a basic understanding of skin and facial treatments will help.

What’s covered

Module 1 – How acne scars form
How inflammatory acne damages the skin, the difference between volume loss and tethering, and why subcision works.

Module 2 – Classifying and assessing scars
Rolling, boxcar and ice pick scars, grading severity, the stretch and pinch tests, and how to examine the face properly.

Module 3 – Indications, contraindications and consent
Who to treat and who to defer, anticoagulants, skin type and pigmentation risk, psychological screening and consent.

Module 4 – Facial anatomy for subcision
The layers of the face, the correct treatment plane, danger zones (vessels, nerves and the parotid duct) and a treatment-zone map.

Module 5 – Instruments: cannulas, needles and Nokor
Cannula design, gauges and lengths, entry needles, cannula versus Nokor, and your equipment checklist.

Module 6 – Local anaesthesia
Lidocaine and adrenaline, calculating doses, how to inject (entry wheals and track infiltration), reducing pain, and recognising toxicity.

Module 7 – Cannula subcision: the technique
Marking, choosing entry points, finding the plane, fanning and crosshatching, the endpoint, haemostasis and troubleshooting.

Module 8 – Nokor subcision
When a sharp needle may have a role, how the technique differs, and how it compares with the cannula.

Module 9 – Combination treatment and staging
Fillers, biostimulators, laser, RF microneedling, TCA CROSS, and planning a staged treatment programme.

Module 10 – Aftercare and expected results
The recovery timeline, aftercare advice, realistic results, before-and-after photography and the review appointment.

Module 11 – Complications
Bruising, haematoma, nodules, infection, pigmentation, nerve injury and vascular events: how to prevent them, manage them and recognise red flags.

Module 12 – Documentation and next steps
Clinical records, audit, and your responsibilities before treating patients.

Final assessment
20 multiple-choice questions, emailed to Skinovation Aesthetics for marking. A certificate of completion is issued on success.
